The Arts

Who is considered an artist? What is considered art? How can art enact social change?

Literature, painting, sculpture, and performance art – among others forms of art – offer valuable ways to understand and initiate social change. Community-building, public art, workers cutting and sewing in factories, a child’s freeform engagement with the world around them… these more adventurous approaches to the meaning of art can be imagined like sparks of social change that emerge when a society is poised to nurture creativity and innovation.
